Heron Bay
A handcrafted timber-frame home that celebrates the lake, the night sky and materials gathered from the surrounding forest.
THE STORY
A home built in conversation with the forest.
Heron Bay was Northern Sky’s first timber-frame home. Oak-dowel joinery, sculpted timbers and fir tongue-and-groove ceilings express the structure honestly, while large windows frame the lake and the Big Dipper after dark.
Handmade from the place itself
Diamond willow gathered from the nearby forest was transformed into one-of-a-kind interior details. Even the traditional tree placed at the timber-frame raising became a dramatic crown above the completed structure.
The result is a home where construction tradition, local material and personal craft are inseparable from the experience of the place.
